Changes to be implemented from 1 July 2004 may increase workcover premiums for some businesses.
In the past some employers have used separate companies to operate a single business and have obtained separate classifications as a result. The workers have been classified by workplace with an effort to keep lower risk workers (eg administrative) in a different location to higher risk workers (eg manufacturing).
Since 4 June 2002 any new workcover policies have denied that this separation of risk is relevant for purposes of premium calculation.
After 1 July 2004 any businesses that are connected with or are largely dependent on each other, will be give a single classification.
If a future audit determines an error, the classification will be backdated to 1st July 2004.
