PJTS Year 2000
Our happens in 2000.

We have just been reading several 'annual family run downs' from friends and have been inspired to quickly jot down something about our own happenings in 2000.  In our case, though, being run down is the operative word but we hope a quiet summer will rejuvenate us all.

2000:
We had a number of fun times seeing it in but then totally lost the bits between the 2-1-00 and 17-12-00. It was though on reflection filled with lots and lots of boy's sport, many committee meetings, work and study. Both boys' have had a great year and have just received excellent reports. They could of course be excellent forgeries!
Highlights of the year were Peter's Mother Joan's 70th birthday celebration in November and Tom preparing for his first solo overseas's trip to Germany. This meant purchasing a new winter wardrobe including thermal underwear and new passports (He wanted his British passport so he could choose the quickest queue at the airport!) Both our respective families are very well and Janet's family is expanding with the addition of cousins who have migrated to Melbourne from South Africa. Christy, David and daughters Nicole and Sarah are living about a kilometer from us and we are thrilled to have them in Australia. Christmas is a Townsend affair this year at Euroa. That means lots of good food and wine and watching the Test. We also plan a week at the beach early in January at Merimbula as Seb has requested lots of fishing and more fishing.

Sebastian:
Yesterday he finished grade 6 at Primary School. There were rumours that they would fail him so his mother could stay on various committees but they were false (too big for the desks!) and he graduating last week and we have the paperwork to prove it. He has had a very social year and the last two weeks has been a constant stream of graduation functions, farewell and pool parties. This is actually very sad, as it has been fun being actively involved with our local school.  Academically Seb seems OK but he will have to work extra hard as he joins Tom at Scotch College a school of 1400 as opposed to the primary school of 500 students. Seb devotes a lot of time to sport and does pretty well at cricket and footy making representative teams for both. He also had a successful year with Athletics and his cross-country performances continue to improve. He is only just 12 but is about 5'8", tall and wears US size 13 in Shoes. Janet is by far the shortest in the family now.

Thomas:
Enjoys school and is far smarter than we are, thank God.  He too has concentrated on Cricket and Footy and plays both well, even had a run with the Oakleigh Chargers a Representative team.  He also does Cadets at school and enjoys the camps and leadership involved in the corps and in September he did the promotion course for Sergeant. He has though informed us that he has no intention of joining the army! Tom is currently in Germany, on a 10-week student exchange, and will miss his first Christmas with us. He's up to week four and gets back Feb. 3rd, a couple of days after school starts in 2001. He is having a great time and it is snowing in Bravaria at the moment while we enjoy a 38-degree day in Melbourne.  Part of the exchange is to brush up on his German grammar so he can concentrate on Chinese next year, which is different and harder. Next year Tom is trying one VCE history subject to see how he goes. So 2001 is the beginning of 2 big years academically. Women are just appearing on his horizon, which is a worry as he is attending a Co-Ed school in Germany. I suppose what we don't know is happening in Germany is for the best! P.S. Before Tom left he was up to 5' 10" - a great relief as little brother was catching up on him fast. All E-mails to Tom are very welcome.

Janet:
Worked again in 2000 on a Colorectal Cancer Family Study at Melbourne University.  She enjoys it immensely, especially the flexibility of hours that have allowed her to attend most of the boys activities throughout the year. This year sees the end of her involvement with Seb's primary school. She finishes with the Parent's association and the school council. She has though already joined the Cadet auxiliary at Scotch, which mainly involves occasional supervision of the school canteen during Saturday sport. Not an onerous duty really. She is also closing in on the end of a Masters she began four years ago, and is down to the final thesis. March is the ever-moving deadline! So she is looking forward to a quieter year in 2001 especially with the boys both at the same school and Peter doing most of the taxi work.

Peter:
Continues to work on developing AcctWeb, a business that supplies Internet services to Accountants.  There are two unique ones that lead the way, specifically a search engine that acts as a Yahoo for Accountants, and a Web Site News Service, tools that allow Accountants to greatly improve how they communicate with their clients.  Peter has just moved offices in November, from Nunawading to Hawthorn to be more central and also to allow him to take the boys to school and pick them up after sport etc.  Peter also played cricket again this year and has finally sunk to a level where runs can be made, even with his 21st birthday present from the Lansfield mob, a Gray-Nicolls cricket bat, which itself is often older than the people being played against. Peter is not sure what will give up first, his bat or his back!

Sorry for the brevity (well it was until Janet added a few bits and pieces!) and overall lack of levity but with some luck in 2001 we'll catch up once again.

Love and best wishes for a safe and happy new year.
